Design Considerations
When designing an Elizabethan Garden there are a few things we must remember.
Enjoyment and extravagant display are a few of the effects we must achieve.
Structurally we need to have the rectangular gardens, hedges, and knot
gardens.
The gardens are separated by paths. These paths lead you around rectangular
raised beds. At the end of the paths you will find knot gardens composed
of shrubs, turf, or gravel.
Some of the gardens need to be herb gardens. These divisions of the
garden need to be full of scent for relaxation. Topiary work needs
to be incorporated with the entire garden. By using frames for arbors
and elaborate pruning of hedges will direct you towards attractions.
The topiaries will be of geometric shapes and more exquisite shapes of
animals.
Since the gardens are for relaxation, shade is a must. Cool shady
places with turf seats are important for experiencing the wilderness.
The gardens are also a food source. In this case, remember you will
have to have fruit trees and herbs for seasoning. |
