Employment Objectives
-I have learned about soil properties, plant biology, plant selection,
and
propagation. I had plant identification classes on herbaceous plants, shade
trees, narrow leaf evergreens, flowering trees and shrubs, vines and broadleaf
evergreens. I will have experienced computers in horticulture, nursery,
and
landscape management.
-I contributed to the development of the OSU Master Gardener web site
-I had hands on work with construction materials, metal fabrication,
surveying, electricity, and small engines.
The United States Coast Guard
Academy - New London, Ct -I learned
about professional attributes, managing time and people, dealing with
conflicts, and physical training along with completing 45 hours towards
my
Bachelor's of Science.
Lakeland Community College - Kirtland, Ohio -I completed
40 hours
towards my Bachelor's of Science.
Lake Erie College - Painesville, Ohio -I completed
12 hours towards my
Bachelor's of Science.
Experience
1999
to Present - I worked part time at Urban Environments Inc. in
Hillard,
Ohio. As a member of their company, I worked on numerous commercial
installation projects. Many of the duties that I performed during my internship
with the company have been expanded upon. I have logged numerous hours
on equipment and have dealt with different materials and site conditions.
1999
-
I interned at Urban Environments Inc. in Hilliard, Ohio. As an intern
I
was on a commercial installation crew that was involved with a $600,000
project along with a few other installs. On site I helped with the planting
of
large caliper trees, shrubs, perennials, and sod laying. On the construction
side, I installed drip edge along the building, four inch drain tile for
beds, a
volleyball court, hardscapes, demolition, and taking measurements off of
blueprints. I received training on estimating and purchasing. I also logged
over
125 hours on a Bobcat, numerous hours on a tractor with rotovator, time
on
a riding trencher, and other pieces of smaller equipment.
1997
to 1998 - I held a full time job at North Coast Perennials in
Madison,
Ohio. I operated machinery and equipment on a daily basis. I also made
sure
that orders that went on trucks were what they were supposed to be. Along
with outgoing orders, I insured that incoming orders contained the proper
materials. In this field I worked with migrant workers, thus allowing me
to
work with a diverse group of people.
1996
to 1997 - I was a cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
I
was involved with an Officer training program. This program involved being
a
full time college student, military drill, professional training classes,
standing on
duty sections, being in charge of duty sections, and being part of the
fleet
during summer training. Some fields covered in my professional training
classes were leadership, management of people and time, organization, honor,
human relations, etiquette, health and appearance. For part of the time
I was
a Platoon Leader and in charge of 36 other cadets.
1985
to 1995 - I held a part time job at Misty Ridge Farms in Madison,
Ohio. I was a farm hand that took care of Quarter Horses and did general
manual labor. It was a job that required numerous skills.
